Athens-born conductor Yorgos Ziavras is active in the international contemporary music scene (Ensemble MusikFabrik, Electronic ID, Ergon Ensemble, tetttix, Gaudeamus Festival, Athens and Epidaurus Festival and others) and has an extensive repertoire, including many world premieres. He is co-founder and principal conductor of the ÉRMA Ensemble (2019), a young ensemble that has already made its mark in the highly competitive German contemporary music scene. In recent years, he has served as 1st Kapellmeister at the Krefeld/Mönchengladbach Theater. Ziavras has also conducted many prominent symphony orchestras, including the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, the Philharmonie Südwestfalen, the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker, the Orchestra of the Greek National Opera, the Südwestdeutsche Kammerorchester Pforzheim in concert halls such as the Cologne Philharmonic, the Megaron Athens, the Greek National Theater, the Graf Zeppelin Haus, etc. He studied orchestral conducting with Prof. Michael Luig at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, piano in Athens and Cologne with Elisabeth Kounalaki and Prof. Paulo Alvares, and architectural design at the National Technical University (NTUA) in Athens.
